Children pick up Easter prizes in Norwich

Children who produced the “boldest, best and funniest” designs for an Easter egg competition have picked up their prizes.
More than 80 youngsters entered the ‘Design an Easter Egg Competition’, organised by Norwich’s Cathedral Quarter.
The Cathedral Quarter steering group aims to improve the number of jobs, visitors and the amount of money currently spent in the area around the Anglican cathedral.
The hope is that more people will explore the historic area, which could become the city’s arts quarter, and that its streets, such as Elm Hill, will attract more shoppers.
The Norwich Lanes was valued last year as having an economic worth of £17m by the New Economics Foundation following a similar initiative created by Norwich Heart: the Easter egg contest was one of the ways the project has been encouraging the public to get involved.
Judge Mark Wilsher, from the Anteros Arts Foundation, said: “It was very hard but I have chosen the boldest, best and funniest entries.”
The winners met at the Maid’s Head Hotel in Tombland, Norwich on Saturday to receive their prizes, with four of the 12 winners from Drayton Junior School.
Three winners from Magdalen Gates Primary School were being presented with their prizes during a school assembly today.
Prizes were also awarded to the winners of an Easter Egg Hunt, which saw families from Bristol and Chester taking part.
Shona Richards, Cathedral Quarter project officer, said: “We were overwhelmed and really impressed with the amount and variety of entries we received. There are some really talented children out there and we hope they enjoyed colouring and painting their eggs. The Easter Egg Hunt was equally as popular with over 100 children taking part who were mainly from Norwich but it was nice to see visitors to the city also joining in the fun.”
The winners in the Easter egg competition, who will each receive a certificate and a prize from the Arts & Craft Department of Jarrold, are: Fleur Cook, Roxanne Marron, Rosa Simpson, Evan Diver-Hall, Ellie Taylor, Eloise Ray, Archie Baldry, Manvi Srivastava, Harry Mann, Abigail Penny, Jack Malcolm, and Tia Parke.
