Youngsters from Brancaster Primary School paid their annual visit to the White Horse in Brancaster Staithe on Wednesday, April 18.

And after a morning of getting to know what healthy eating is all about, the winning design for the menu was chosen.

It was made by Josh Amm, and it will feature on the children's menu from now on. He received a prize and a meal for his family at The White Horse.

The pub's reception manager Beata Arnoczki said: 'It was a really good day. The kids did some activities in the morning, based on healthy eating, and coloured their own salad bowls.

'We had scrabble as well, and smelly pots design, where they had to figure out what was in the pot. They also carried trays with water-filled glasses, which they managed not to drop. And they made pasta and fruit kebabs with the chef.'

Sarah Bocking, the school's executive headteacher, said that designing pictures for the menu was a good way for the children to do something for their community.

She added: 'It also enables our children to investigate some of the career options available to them and maybe inspire them for the future.

'It is also a chance for the less academic children to shine.

'The visit to the White Horse to explore food and cooking is an important educational opportunity for our children, especially in current times when healthy eating is an important initiative. We are very grateful to the White Horse for this amazing opportunity.'

All 40 pupils from the school were treated to a morning of fun, food and healthy eating options, and they helped make their own lunch, as well.

Rob Williamson, general manager at The White Horse said: 'We all love this morning of creative and foodie fun with Brancaster schoolchildren and it's great we can impart some of our food knowledge to them. It's a great community event and something we always want to be part of.'
