Children who travel to school in Halesworth via taxi will be ensured of a safer journey after a generous donation.

Suffolk county councillor Tony Goldson has provided 10 car booster seats to Edgar Sewter Primary School, in Norwich Road, after a request from the school's road safety team.

Mr Goldson said: 'The children were concerned that some of the young ones coming to school in taxis did not have booster seats like they have at home, so they wrote a series of letters to everybody about this.'

Mr Goldson decided to buy them some, and Suffolk Coastal MP Therese Coffey pledged to raise the matter with her fellow MPs.

The school's strong emphasis on road safety has been awarded by Suffolk County Council and the pupils are constantly looking for green methods of transport.

Mr Goldson, who used some of his localism budget to buy the seats, said: 'I am more than happy to help. They do so much for themselves it is only right and proper I help when I can.'
