The transition between nursery and primary school has been made easier with the opening of a new building in a Norfolk village.

Teachers, governors, and pupils at Weeting Primary School, near Brandon, celebrated the official opening of an extension, which will be shared by the local play school and reception classes.

The 165,000 new early years centre, at the rear of the school site in Main Road, was opened by Baroness Shephard on Tuesday afternoon, almost ten years after the former MP opened another extension at the village school.

Work began on the building in October and was completed by April.

Anita Hennington, headteacher at Weeting Primary School, said the project came about after the school joined forces with the Little Saints Pre-School to replace the pre-school's out of date mobile classroom.

'It has enabled us as a school to open a new class particularly for reception children. It is going to make a natural transition from one place to the other and the children will lose the nervousness involved in starting a new school,' she said.

The extension was funded through Norfolk County Council and the play group.
