As tens of thousands of people descend on the area for a major UK festival, pupils at one Lowestoft-area primary school have been celebrating the success of their own inaugural festival.
As a music and arts extravaganza takes centre stage this weekend at Henham Park, near Southwold, for the 13th edition of Latitude Festival, youngsters at Woods Loke Primary School in Oulton Broad opened their doors to parents this week for their very first festival in Years 5 and 6.
A number of areas across the school in Butley Drive were transformed into art, dance, comedy, storytelling and music zones as the Attitude Festival was held.
With the children in Years 5 and 6 showcasing the festival to pupils in all years of the school, weeks of hard work were realised on Wednesday, July 11.
Years 5 and 6 department manager Simon Lea said: 'It has been great. The kids have loved it and all in all we are absolutely thrilled. It is the first ever festival we have held and we can't wait to do it again.'
For the past few weeks lots of work has been done in lessons about festivals, and this led to focus groups being established for the Attitude Festival.
Mr Lea said: 'The children had been going into these focus groups once a week, with every single child in Year 5 and 6 being involved.'
From making their own jokes and perfecting acts to perform in the comedy section, the youngsters also chose their own favourite stories to read out in the groups in the storytelling section.
In the art zone, different groups assembled at a number of tables as arts and crafts were showcased to others – including bracelet making, origami, painting and colouring. In the sports hall a number of youngsters performed dance routines, highlighting two different types of dance that they had learnt, while songs were sung and different instruments were showcased in the music zone.
With a group of event managers, in hi-visibility jackets, from Year 5 and 6 showing pupils and parents around the festival, other event managers worked behind the scenes to promote the event.
Imogen Culham and Ashton Clark, from Year 6, said: 'It has been really fun. Everyone has been working together and the two year groups have worked well with the rest of the school.'
