The building, in the Norfolk timber shed style, was opened in September 2013 and has three floors which include facilities for digital arts, traditional arts and design, fashion and performing arts rehearsal spaces.

The performance spaces and art studios can be opened up to be used for larger shows, public events and gallery spaces.

Civic Trust Awards are given to projects showing high standards of design, sustainability, accesibility, or those which have made a positive cultural, social or economic contribution to the community.

The college claims the building “is designed to express a distinct college identity while supporting internal connectivity at the building scale as well as the whole campus”.

Corrienne Peasgood, City College Norwich’s principal, said: “We are delighted to hear that our fantastic new building has won a Civic Trust Award.

“The new creative arts space has already proven to be an invaluable asset to our students’ learning and development and allows us, as a Gazelle college, to continue driving forward entrepreneurial learning in this area.

“As City College Norwich heads towards its 125th anniversary year, this is just one part in our ongoing drive to redevelop and update our campus to continue its role as an exemplary institution for the students of Norfolk today and into the future.”
