Edgefield pub wins national prize

A north Norfolk pub has won a national award for being family friendly.

The Pigs in Edgefield was named the best family pub in the Great British Pub Awards 2012 during an awards dinner in London on Thursday. (September 13).

The Pigs had already been chosen as the best family pub in the East Anglia region and beat off the challenge of other regional winners to claim the national title.

The awards, organised by pub industry magazine, the Publican’s Morning Advertiser, are described as the Oscars of the pub world.

The Publican’s Morning Advertiser editor Rob Willock said the judges were impressed with the pub’s £20,000 investment in an outdoor playground, children’s menu, cookery classes for under-12s, barter system in which old toys earn discounts on meals and its seven new letting rooms with family facilities.

He added: “Above all the judges praised The Pigs for being a great family pub that doesn’t alienate other customers.”
