Suffolk’s global superstar Ed Sheeran will be returning to his home county next summer for two huge concerts.

Ed will be playing two nights at Chantry Park in Ipswich next August as he returns to the county where he grew up.

An official announcement is expected to be made at 10am today.

The gigs will take place on the August 23 and 24 – a Friday and Saturday night.

As well as playing in Ipswich, Ed will also be performing two nights at Roundhay Park in Leeds, Yorkshire, the county where he was born.

Combined, the Ipswich and Leeds dates are the only UK gigs announced by Sheeran so far for 2019.

Next summer’s gigs will not be the first time the Castle on the Hill singer has played in Ipswich.

Back in 2009 and 2010 Ed took part in Ipswich Music Day playing in Christchurch Park before he became well known.

It was a similar case in 2010 when he played at The Swan pub on King Street, in a gig which spilled out onto the pavement outside the Corn Exchange.

After topping the charts, Ed returned to Ipswich in 2014 where he held a secret gig at the Steamboat Tavern in Ipswich for only 50 people.

Last year he revealed an ambition to play at Portman Road, the home of his beloved Ipswich Town.

News of Ed’s return to Ipswich next summer came as part of a larger announcement about his global headline shows and festival dates for next year.

Tickets for the Ipswich shows will go on general sale at 10am on Thursday September 27. Ticketing rules for the gig will be strict in line with Sheeran’s previous stance on ticket reselling.

‘Paperless’ tickets will be used for the event, meaning that the credit or debit card used to purchase entrance to the gig will in fact be the ticket.

Organisers hope that this will reduce the opportunities for touts to sell on tickets.

Fans who are genuinely unable to attend will be able to sell their tickets at a later date.

The official websites for purchasing gig tickets for the Ipswich performances will be Ticketmaster.co.uk, Seetickets.com, Altickets.com, Gigantic.com and AXS.com.
