Owner Victoria MacDonald at The Cellar House will be offering a postal office service in the pub as Eaton's post office is due to close.

People of Eaton will soon be able to post a parcel with a pint, as the local post office finds itself a new home in a pub.

As of Friday, February 5, Eaton’s village post office will be stationed inside the Cellar House pub, on Eaton Street, after a successful bid to rescue the service from closure.

The village’s post office had been in danger of closing, after previous postmaster Malcolm Fuller had said that rising costs and dwindling wages had made his post untenable.

In October, Eaton residents overwhelmingly came out in support of the proposal, and now, Cellar House owner Victoria MacDonald has delivered on her promise to rescue post office.

She said: “The opening of the post office within the Cellar House makes absolute sense. It is in almost the same location as before, but now will have improved facilities and be open longer.

“It will obviously be a learning curve for us, but with the great team we have at the pub, I’m more than confident that we can deliver first class service.”

Will Russell, regional manager of the Post Office, said: “We understand how important having a post office is to residents in Eaton and are confident that this new modern post office service will meet the needs of the local community and secure services for the future.

“This modernisation is part of a major investment programme, the largest in the history of the Post Office and marks a commitment to no more branch closure programmes.”

The post office will be officially opened on Saturday, February 20, by Simon Wright, chief executive of Norfolk children’s bereavement charity Nelson’s Journey.
