Two villages will be holding a commemoration event this weekend to mark the centenary of the First World War.

The twin villages of East and West Runton are holding the Runton Parish History Society event this Sunday September 7 at 7pm.

Historian Neil Storey will give a talk at East Runton village hall.

The parish sent 178 men to fight in the battlefields of Europe, and 34 never returned - a fifth of those who went. Their names are engraved on the war memorial at West Runton.

Two families lost four sons each, which would have affected uncles, aunts, cousins and nephews who lived in the village. There are still descendents of these families in the parish.
