Hundreds people got their ducks in a row – quite literally – for an eagerly-anticipated Easter race along Wymondham’s iconic River Tiffey Valley.

The town’s annual Easter Monday Duck Race has proved popular with families and people of all ages looking for something to keep them occupied during the Bank Holiday break.

The first of 10 races splashed off from 1pm on the River Tiffey Meadow, just beyond the Wymondham Abbey bridge, with people able to buy a duck for just £1 to be in with a chance of winning the £50 prize that comes with the Abbey Gold Cup.

With more than 100 ducks per race, it was a crowded swim to the chequered flag – but one organiser Robert Culyer said it had proved “very, very popular”.

The money from the event will not go specifically towards the ongoing restoration of the Abbey but will go into the parish funds.

Mr Culyer said it was expected to bring in about £2,000.
