A baby hamper donated by the Duchess of Cambridge is among lots going under the hammer for East Anglia's Children's Hospices this month.

Russell Baker, Lord of Little Moulton, who lives in Bracon Ash, near Wymondham, has organised the online auction on behalf of the charity, which has hospices in Quidenham, Ipswich and Milton, near Cambridge.

He said: 'The charity needs to raise 15,000 a day to deliver its services, so I hope the public will get behind this online auction and help to raise more than 5,000 to help the hospices continue caring for and supporting local children with life-threatening conditions and their families.'

Also among the bid items up for grabs are artwork donated by the Artique Gallery in Norwich, an RBS Six Nations rugby shirt signed by the Welsh captain Sam Warburton and a signed Norwich City football. More items are being sought, so new items will be added weekly.

'The charity auction will have something for everyone's pocket and interest,' said Lord Baker.

Online bidding opens on Saturday, January 12, then the charity auction 'prize' presentation night is on Thursday, June 6, at the Artique Gallery – tickets 10 per person.

Lord Baker added: 'The support from the community so far has been excellent, we've had fantastic support from Phil Lythgoe at Norwich football club and the support provided by Tait Pollack at DDS Hosting in Norwich, who are developing and hosting the auction website, has been outstanding.'

Laura Shearing, Norfolk fundraiser for EACH, said: 'Russell's efforts really are an inspiration and we cannot thank him enough for his continued dedication and enthusiasm in supporting EACH. The vital funds that Russell continues to raise really will go a long way in supporting local life-threatened children and their families.

'The spirit and generosity shown by local businesses so far is phenomenal but we are urging the general public to really get behind this event to ensure the auction is a success.'
