Drivers have been warned to brace themselves for delays when major resurfacing work is carried out on Norwich’s inner ring road.
A four-week programme to resurface the stretch of the inner ring road between the Duke Street and Barrack Street roundabouts is set to start next week, with a string of road closures planned.
Norwich City Council says the “essential road maintenance” programme is likely to cause delays and advised drivers to seek alternative routes if possible.
Duke Street roundabout on to Pitt Street and a 70-metre stretch of the dual carriageway on the St Crispins Road flyover and part of the Barrack Street roundabout will be resurfaced first, starting on Monday.
The work is expected to take 10 nights to complete, with the roads shut from 7pm until 7am.
Barrack Street roundabout resurfacing will be completed next, with work starting on Monday, August 6.
The council says, given the volume of traffic, that work will also take place overnight between 7pm and 7am and is expected to take five nights to complete, weather permitting.
Barrack Street roundabout and adjoining roads will be affected during the work and diversion routes will be signed. Bull Close Road and Charlton Road will also be resurfaced with full road closures in place. That work is set to last for five nights.
During that work, the current one-way restriction in Steward Street and Silver Street will be temporarily lifted to allow vehicle access.
A council spokesman said: “While other areas of the ring road will be accessible, the closures and traffic controls are likely to cause delays and we would therefore suggest drivers consider using alternative routes where possible and allow extra travelling time.
“No parking within the working area will be available, however, pedestrians will still be able to use paths and vehicle access will be available up to either side of the closure points.
“The council would like to apologise for any inconvenience this essential work may cause. We will work with our contractors to keep disruption to a minimum.”
Nearly 3,000 people have supported a Facebook campaign demanding safety improvements on the A47 near Dereham set up after the latest fatal crash.

A map would be useful for visitors to the City. And no, I'm not related to anyone on here.
