Mayor Linda Monument presented a certificate to the Dragoons in front of thousands of mid-Norfolk residents who crowded into the Market Place for the welcome home parade.

Mrs Monument said: “The town council wanted to do something special to mark your return from Afghanistan this time. We have decided to grant the Light Dragoons the freedom of the town of Dereham as a permanent sign of friendship between us.

“It is our way of saying welcome back to Dereham.”
