Norwich’s GoGoDragons! captivated the imaginations of people of all ages this summer - and today we can reveal that the city’s favourite fire-breathing beast was Dragonfly.

Eighty-four fiery friends decorated Norwich as part of the GoGoDragons! trail brought to Norwich by children’s charity Break and Wild in Art, and thousands of votes were cast in our online competition to find the most popular dragon.

Fourteen of the dragons made it through to the grand final which saw Dragonfly fly to victory after securing 22pc of the votes.

The striking blue character - who has the wings and eyes of a male dragonfly and the painted body of a male damselfly - was created by artist Ross White and sponsored by Shred Station.

Mr White said: “Wow, I am totally blown away, I am amazed. I was aiming to do something that stood out from the rest and it looks like I have achieved that. I just hope now that Dragonfly raises lots of money for the charity.”

Dragon dates

The GoGoDragons! are set to return to Norwich for a “last chance to see” event at The Forum from September 27 to 30.

They will then go under the hammer at a charity auction at the city venue on October 1 to raise funds for Break. For more about GoGoDragons! visit www.gogodragons.co.uk, www.edp24.co.uk/gogodragons and www.eveningnews24.co.uk/gogodragons

Simon Franklin, from Norwich-based Shred Station, said: “It’s brilliant. There are a lot of nice dragons but Dragonfly for me stood out and that is why we picked the dragon. We are very pleased that it has won.”

While most of the dragons have now left the city’s streets, people can still see Dragonfly on display at the Forum in Norwich along with fellow dragons Luda and Tuppence.

IndyGoGo500 (artist Owen Wright, sponsor Mayday OES Ltd) came second in our online competition with 17pc of the votes, GoGoHoratio (artist Ryan Newell, sponsor Signs Express) came third with 15pc, Bajestic (artist Jessica Copping, sponsor Norfolk Scouts) came fourth with 10pc, and Sprite Snap (artist Beverley Gene Coraldean, sponsor Coleman Opticians) came fifth with 9pc.
