The group of 72 were treated to hotdogs and even a visit from Queen Elizabeth I, who was unimpressed that the girls’ uniform included trousers.

Brown Owl Vicky Wardrope, from 2nd Spixworth Brownies, said the clothing was something woman and girls of Tudor times would not be impressed with.

The girls also had Elizabethan stories told to them by story tellers and met the Queen, as well as learning about her and the clothes she wore. At midnight the girls were treated to hot chocolate and marshmallows, followed by more stories.

Ms Wardrope said: “The whole evening was a fantastic experience with some wonderful activities.

“All the Brownies, Guides, Senior Section and Leaders would like to thank Sarah Powell, Rachel Duffield and the rest of the staff at Dragon Hall for a very memorable royal sleep-over.”
