Look away now if you’re scared of creepy crawlies..
For a madcap maintenance man is going to tuck into worms and termites - followed by a giant tarantula.
Adam Titcombe, 32, from Denver, near Downham Market, is being sponsored to bite into the bugs to raise money for residents’ activities at Downham Grange nursing home.
His I’m a Celebrity take-off – I’m a Maintenance Man Get Me Out Of Here, will be the highlight of the home’s summer barbecue on Saturday.
Kingsley Healthcare staff have joined residents’ families and friends in sponsoring the father of one to eat his way through a veritable smorgasbord of insect life.
Mr Titcombe, who was a senior carer at the home before taking over the role of maintenance man two years ago, said: “I have never done anything like this before. My wife Georgina is not too keen on be doing it but she will be here to support me with our eight month old son Asher.”
He will be chomping on everything from locusts, buffalo worms and mealworms to crickets, silkworms pupae and flying termites – finishing off his feast with a zebra tarantula the size of a male hand.
“I said I would finish off with the tarantula if I managed to raise £300 and the total has already topped £500,” he said.
Simone Loxley, the home’s business manager, sourced all the bugs on Amazon.
Mr Titcombe said: “We are planning to use the proceeds on outings for the residents in the run-up to Christmas.”
