A Fakenham couple who featured on BBC series Don’t tell the Bride enjoyed a Muscle Beach wedding as a tribute to the groom’s bodybuilder uncle, who died in a helicopter crash.
Many women would struggle to cope with the idea of handing over full responsibility for planning her wedding day to her partner.
But that is exactly what Victoria Goble did – and a national TV audience saw the results on Tuesday.
Mrs Goble, 26, and her husband Lloyd, 22, who live together in Fakenham, appeared in Don’t Tell the Bride on BBC Three.
The reality show sees couples spend three weeks apart without contact and the bridegroom given responsibility to organise every aspect of the big day.
Mr Goble was described a “gym-obsessed mummy’s boy” whose devotion to his family was only matched by his passion for spending time in the gym.
But viewers saw him break down in tears as he described the reason for his dedication – as his love of body-building was inspired by his uncle Nolan Goble, an oil rig worker from Wells who died in a North Sea helicopter crash in 2009 at the age of the 34.
The tearful groom said: “When someone is in your life and they mean so much to you – when it is something they used to do and got you into, you just want to carry on and make them proud.”
Mr Goble’s choice of wedding venue in tribute to his uncle – the body-building Mecca of Muscle Beach in Los Angeles – initially brought a shocked reaction from his future in-laws.
His bride was also reduced to tears when she discovered she would be getting married abroad, as she had preferred to keep her big day close to her home and family in Norfolk.
But when she realised the poignant motivation behind the wedding plans she said: “I just think he (Nolan) would have been so proud of Lloyd. So proud.
“It is everything that I wouldn’t pick but, nonetheless, it has been absolutely amazing. I’ve been completely blown away by everything he has done.”
Earlier this week, before the screening of the episode, Mrs Goble said: “Lloyd is really laid back and not one for making decisions or organising things, so it was a really big thing for him to take on.
“I’ve always been a big fan of the show and, to be honest, I’ve never been the sort of person who has thought all of my life about my wedding day, which is probably why I did this. But I still wanted it to be special and fairly traditional.
“Lloyd is really creative and a bit eccentric, so I really didn’t know what to expect.”
Fitness fanatic Lloyd first met Victoria, a hairdresser, two years ago when she came into his tanning salon in Dereham.
They were engaged after just six months.
The show was filmed for three weeks up until their wedding day on July 5.
Lloyd moved back into his parents’ home in Dereham during that time.
Mrs Goble said: “It was difficult enough for me to do the whole thing in the first place and being apart for three weeks, with no contact, was really tough. My three-year-old daughter Sienna-Rose really missed Lloyd as well.”
