A well-known Lowestoft DJ is facing allegations that his YouTube channel hosted videos which may incite gang violence.

A national newspaper investigation identified Tim Westwood’s channel in a leaked police database. It is alleged some videos show what could be interpreted as threats made between rival gangs.

Mr Westwood, a former BBC radio presenter, grew up in Lowestoft before moving to Norwich aged eight, when his father became a vicar.

An investigation by The Times alleged the Metropolitan Police database included 32 music videos hosted by Westwood’s YouTube channel and identified as “potentially inciting violence”.

Last week, Met commissioner Cressida Dick warned that gangs could provoke violence through rap videos.

Westwood, 60, presented the Rap Show on Radio 1 until 2013 and now hosts videos on TimWestwoodTV.

A spokeswoman for Westwood told a national newspaper: “These artists featured on TimWestwoodTV are rap groups not gangs.

“There is no payment or fee to be featured on TimWestwoodTV.

“The freestyle sessions operate at a loss, as they do not even cover the production cost of making the video.

“We have a compliance process of all videos being approved before release by an executive producer in charge of content and editorial guidelines.

“Any threats of violence would be removed from the video.”

Westwood was reported to have said he was unaware of any police requests and would not recognise any gang members.
