Organisers of a Norfolk town’s beer festival were confident of beating last year’s record attendance as the annual event continues to grow in popularity.

Last year, the Diss Beer Festival, held at the town’s Corn Hall, set a record for the number of visitors, but the hall’s spokesman Angela Sykes said she was hopeful there would be more people at this year’s two day festival, which was held on Friday and Saturday,

She added: “We had a good attendance all the way through the evening on Friday. It is a popular event and people seem to really enjoy it. It is very much part of our annual programme here at the Corn Hall.”

Punters could choose from 28 ales and three ciders sourced from breweries across East Anglia, while wine was also available.

The local brews included Trawlerboys Best Bitter from Green Jack’s brewery in Lowestoft and a number of beers produced by Buffy’s Brewery at Tivetshall St Mary, including Norwich Terrier.

Julie Savory, from Buffy’s, was behind the bar at the festival and she said Norwich Terrier had proved particulaly popular, while the ciders had suprisingly sold out this year after struggling last year.

She added: “We do this to try and help the Corn Hall. A town the size of Diss should be able to sustain a beer festival.”

As well as the beer, there was also live music to keep the visitors entertained, including performances by the bands Gypsy, Chill Villa and Bazza Bizarre, while guests also had the opportunity to participate in a pub quiz in between performances from the bands.

This year’s festival was the fourth since it started and visitors were also able to enjoy hot and cold food alongside their choice of tipple.

The event took place from 5pm to 11pm on Friday and from midday to 11pm on Saturday.
