The Stead and Simpson shoe shop in Dereham will be closing this month, according to the manager of the shopping development.

Nigel Sizeland, Dencora development manager, said the store on the corner of Wight’s Walk and High Street will close its doors on Thursday, November 15.

Big closing down signs have appeared outside the branch, which has traded in the Dencora shopping area since 2005.

But he added: “Dencora’s door is always open for negotiation.”

Some 200 stores, including the Dereham branch, were bought by rival chain Shoe Zone in January 2008.

Despite a Shoe Zone spokesman confirming last month that the store was closing down due to “poor performance” and “rising costs”, the company refused to comment this week on when the shop would shut.

The Shoe Zone spokesman added last month that the King’s Lynn branch, in New Conduit Street, was also closing down because of “poor performance” and “rising costs”. She did not know when that particular store would close.
