Show your support for our servicemen is the message to everyone in Dereham ahead of the Light Dragoons homecoming parade on December 5.
Some 400 troops from the Swanton Morley-based Army regiment will march through the town after returning from six months in Afghanistan.
The parade will form up on Norwich Street to set off at 11am and several military vehicles and a regiment band will join the spectacle.
After marching down Norwich Street, the parade will turn right into Cowper Road, left down Wellington Road and finish on the Market Place.
The servicemen will stand to attention on Church Street before a one minute silence to remember members of the regiment who died in action.
A thanksgiving service will be held for the troops at St Nicholas Church followed by a civic reception, hosted by Breckland Council and Norfolk County Council, at the Memorial Hall.
A Breckland spokesman said: “This will be a great opportunity for people - both young and old - from right across the district to show their appreciation and support for the work of one of our regiments and at the same time remember those who will not be returning. It is expected that a large crowd, including family and friends of many of those marching, will be lining the route.”
The parade is expected to last for around 30 minutes, the Cherry Tree car park will be closed and all on street parking along the route will be unavailable from 6am.
Roads closed on the day from 8am will include:
-Norwich Street - from the Matsell Way and Station Road crossroads to the Cowper Road junction
-Wellington Road - from the Cowper Road junction to the War Memorial on the High Street
-Market Place/High Street - from the War Memorial to the Church Street junction
Roads will reopen after the parade is finished and some bus services will be affected. A homecoming parade was held for the Light Dragoons in December 2009 following a previous tour in Afghanistan.
