A second-hand furniture shop in Dereham is facing a huge clean-up operation after vandals smashed in all its windows over a two-night rampage.

Sofas & More on London Road, where it meets Baxter Row, has had to close for the rest of the week after it was targeted overnight on New Year’s Eve and again in the early hours of this morning. (Wednesday, January 2)

The windows along the side of the shop on Baxter Row were initially hit, cracking the panes but leaving them relatively intact. But the second attack was more vicious, completely shattering one large window at the front and sending shards of glass throughout the shop and ruining stock. The window has now been boarded up.

The business is owned by local man Arron Villers but his silent business partner, who did not want to be named, was at the shop yesterday assessing the extent of the damage.

“It looked like something out of a horror film,” he said. “The front was completely smashed in with glass hanging everywhere. The leather sofas are covered in glass and some are ripped so we won’t be able to sell them. We are gutted.

“There is thousands of pounds worth of damaged glass and stock. It is insured but we will have to shut the shop until at least next week to make sure it is safe and clear out the damaged stock. The glass man who came to have a look today said it could take weeks to sort out. I don’t know if it will put people off coming in here because of how it looks from the outside. It is just a small business but it is Arron’s living and it just seems like mindless vandalism.”

Police are investigating and looking at CCTV footage from cameras at the library and Wilkinsons.

Anyone with information should contact Norfolk Police on the non-emergency number 101.
