A pile of rubble is left where an historic hotel once stood in Thetford.

Work to knock down the former Anchor Hotel began on December 16 and as this picture shows, the demolition is complete, with a mound of brick and timber left at the site in Bridge Street.

Work to landscape the area near the town's bus station is set to begin in the New Year whilst designers draw up new plans for its redevelopment.

Plans to demolish the former Anchor Hotel were approved by district councillors earlier in the year. However, councillors were unhappy with the design of the hotel, cinema and five units for shops, restaurants or cafs proposed for the site. Breckland Council, which owns the land, has approved the use of 110,000 to demolish and landscape the area after it was decided that the Anchor building was structurally unsafe. The hotel was featured in the first episode of Dad's Army.
