Tickets for the popular fancy dress dance, which is the traditional closing event to the main week of activities, go on sale this Saturday August 2 at 9am.

January-sale style queues have formed in the past, and organisers are urging people to snap-up the £10 tickets early as they are on a first-come, first-served basis .

They will be available at the The Cottage pub on Louden Road.

Every year hundreds of people hire and create colourful outfits for the dance, which is in the carnival marquee on Runton Road on Friday August 22 August from 8pm.

On the evening of the dance fancy dress judging will start at 10pm and there is a special cup for the overall winner of the competition.

Norfolk-based band Drop The Clutch are providing the music with a mix of rock covers.

Carnival chairman Tony Shipp encouraged people to get creative. He said “There is always a fantastic atmosphere at the fancy dress dance and is one of the highlights of the Carnival.

“It always amazes me to see the array of different outfits that appear on the night. We look forward to seeing you there.”

Tickets for the Carnival’s Wine Tasting Evening will also go on sale at the same time, priced at £12.50 each. The event, which always sells out, will take place in the Carnival Hospitality Tent on Sunday August 17 at 7pm.

Two weeks of children’s activities begin on Monday with 11am chalk on the pier, and 2.30m record breaker sessions.

Carnival week runs from August 16 to 22 with the parade day on Wednesday including an 11am display by the Red Arrows in their 50th display season.

The carnival programme is now out at local outlets or can be viewed online at www.cromercarnival.co.uk
