Campaigners are celebrating a double victory after winning planning permission for a skatepark - then getting a 20,000 pledge towards the project. At Monday's Cromer Town Council, members agreed to pledge the sum towards the facility at The Meadow.
It came a few days after North Norfolk District Council planners gave the go-ahead to the skatepark, ending a 30-year quest for a site in Cromer.
At the town council meeting, Greg Hayman was supported in his proposal to give 20,000 - either from the planned sale of the lodge at the cemetery on Holt Road, 'other sources' or from a predicted underspend on the budget.
He said: 'It's time for this council to make a significant contribution to this.'
Last Thursday's planning consent was a major breakthrough in the battle to provide the facility for local youngsters. NNDC's development control committee voted unanimously in favour of amended plans.
In July they suggested moving the planned site slightly east into the mini golf area, further away from sheltered housing, a footpath and an informal play area.
But negotiations concluded the original site was best, with a redesign to avoid the path and minimise the impact on the ball games.
Skatepark chairman Edward Land said after the decision: 'It has brought all our hard work to a wonderful conclusion, and it is wonderful that councillors have got behind our vision.'
Sixteen letters, including a 22-name petition, were against the revised plans, with 23 letters in favour.
