Cromer has been named as one of the 15 best UK destinations for family-friendly holidays on a top travel site.

HolidayLettings.co.uk, a TripAdvisor company, identified the best-reviewed family-friendly destinations in the UK by analysing ratings and reviews for all UK properties.

Laurel Greatrix, a spokesman for the firm, said: “With its beautiful sandy beaches, atmospheric Victorian pier and nearby steam railway, it’s easy to see why Cromer made it into the top 15 best family holiday destinations.

“The local attractions and amenities will keep children of all ages happy, from tots to teenagers.”

The news was welcomed by Tom FitzPatrick, Leader of North Norfolk District Council, who said: “It’s fantastic news to see Cromer recognised for the excellent services it provides for families.

“The town serves the full age range with its facilities, accommodation and attractions throughout the year and this is worthy recognition of that fact.

“As a council we are proud custodians of Cromer pier – arguably the town’s leading attraction.

“The district as a whole is a fabulous visitor destination and tourism is an incredibly important economic driver for our towns and villages.”

HolidayLettings.co.uk lists over 615,000 holiday homes across 164 countries.

On its blog, it says of Cromer: “This Norfolk coastal town is a firm favourite with families looking for traditional fun beside the sea.

“The surrounding area is packed with attractions to delight adventurers young and old, from riding the North Norfolk steam railway to having tree-top fun at the Pensthorpe Natural Park.

“But the real heart of this destinations lies, of course, at the seaside. Don’t forget to sample some of the famous Cromer crabs and walk along the atmospheric Victorian pier while you’re there.”

■ The other top UK destinations were: Blackpool, St Andrews, Fife, Camber, East Sussex, Belfast, Filey, Yorkshire, Cheltenham, Holsworthy, Devon, Bournemouth and Poole, both in Dorset, Shanklin, Isle of Wight, Skegness, Buxton and Matlock, both in Derbyshire, and Truro.
