A teenager who crashed his car into a tree after taking drugs has been detained in a young offenders' institution.

Jordan Giles, 19, of Greenland Avenue, Wymondham was sentenced to 18 months after pleading guilty at Norwich Crown Court to causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

The court heard Giles had been taking the drug ketamine on the night of the collision on September 30.

He was driving his black Vauxhall Corsa on the B1113 at Carleton Rode.

He had been travelling towards New Buckenham when he lost control of his car near to the junction with Fen Road, crashing into a tree.

The three passengers, two women and a man, suffered injuries.

One woman suffered serious facial, spine and internal injuries.

All four occupants were taken to the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital for treatment.

During the police investigation, traces of ketamine were found in Giles' blood.

He was also disqualified from driving for five years, must take an extended re-test and ordered to pay a £100 victim surcharge.
