The victim was walking home after a night out when the attack happened between 3.30am and 3.40am.

After accepting a lift from the city centre she was dropped off at the Aylsham Road end of Mile Cross Road.

As she walked down Mile Cross Road towards Drayton Road, she was approached by another man who whistled to her and then spoke to her.

He then joined the victim and began walking in her direction.

The victim felt uneasy and carried on walking but the man continued to engage her in conversation. As they got further down the road the man sexually assaulted her.

The man then head butted the woman to the left side of her head causing her to fall into a garden.

When she got up again he had gone. She believes he ran off towards Aylsham Road.

The victim suffered pain and a small lump to the side of her head as a result of the assault.

Her attacker was white, around 5ft 10ins tall and of medium build. He had short brown hair and was wearing a light coloured tracksuit.

DC Carly Jermy, Norwich CID, who is leading the investigation, said: “This was a frightening experience for the victim and I would like to appeal for anyone who saw or heard anything early Saturday morning on Mile Cross Road to contact me.

“Our local neighbourhood officers will also be increasing their patrols in that area to give reassurance to the local community.”

DC Jermy can be contacted on 101 or alternatively call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
