Police are appealing for witnesses after a young woman riding her bicycle was assaulted in Terrington.

Extra patrols are being carried out in the area, as officers investigate what appears to have been an unprovoked, random attack.

The 18-year-old said that she was pushed off the bike and kicked by two men while she was riding it along Benns Lane, off the main Lynn Road in the village.

She received minor injuries in the attack, which happened at about 8.50pm on Monday.

Police said no descriptions of the two offenders who assaulted her were available, because it was dark at the time of the incident.

The motive for the assault also remains a mystery, as no attempt was made to steal any items from the woman.

Insp Mick Bates, policing lead for the Downham Market area, which includes Terrington, said: 'This is a distressing incident but is thankfully very rare in our area.

'We are investigating fully and would urge anyone with any information to come forward. Extra patrols are being carried out in the area.'

Anyone who may have seen anything or anyone suspicious in the area around the time of the attack is asked to contact PC Graham Brooks, at Downham Market police station, on 101.

Information can also be passed anonymously to Crimestoppers, on 0800 555 111.
