This latest set of photos has been sent in by John Cena, of Douro Place, West Pottergate, and shows excess rubbish bags left piled up around communal waste bins.

Mr Cena, 38, says he has seen people who don’t live in the area driving in and dumping bags of waste.

He is calling on his neighbours to make sure they report fly-tippers.

He said: “This has got a lot worse recently. Hopefully now that we are under the city centre SNT (safer neighbourhood team) they can give it some attention.”

Mr Cena added that the fly-tipping is also attracting cats and foxes which will rip the bags open. He has a high-profile supporter for his call as well because the constituency office of Norwich South MP Simon Wright is in Douro Place.

Mr Wright, pictured, said: “I’m very concerned. I’ve known about this since speaking to Mr Cena about it last summer when there had been incidents of people using the communal bins for their own waste and I reported my concerns to the city council. I think residents and businesses need to be vigilant and make sure they are reporting these problems. As it is right on my constitu-ency office’s door step, me and my staff will be more than happy to try and help.”

Fly-tipping carries a maximum punishment of a fine of £50,000 and five years in jail and last year cost the city council around £200,000 to clear up.

To report fly-tipping to the city council, call 0344 980 3333 or email info@norwich.gov.uk, or to report fly to Broadland District Council, call 01603 430534 or email environ.protection@broadland.gov.uk

  • I now refuse to recycle anything, other than glass bottles, since NCC have decided that incineration is the way forward in dealing with rubbish, there is no way I'm going to be an unpaid rag picker for some fat yank across the pond or the other turkey, Mr Murphy.

  • I would like to point out that this story was somewhat misleading it mentions simon wright, what it does not mention is that he has done nothing about this problem since he was made aware of it last summer , and that the green party who represent the area are doing nothing as well , labour are not represnted offically in this area and it is up to the elected counsollers to deal with it , but they can not be bothered . I may just take my rubbish and leave it outside mr wrights office as it seems he does alot.

  • The photos show bagged up rubbish placed next to the communal bins waiting for collection - is this really fly-tipping ? I bet if you looked in the blue recycling bin it would be half empty and the bin bags strewn around would be full of items that could be recycled but the residents have bothered to do so - hence the extra rubbish ?

  • This "fly tipping" may be observed on West Pottergate and Douro Place approximately once a fortnight, as residents from whom the rubbish collection was arbitrarily removed last summer carry their bagged rubbish downstairs and along the road to the communal bins and find them already full.
