A man who stole another man’s wallet after helping him up from a fall has been jailed.
Damien Chapman, 30, of Wisbech Road, King’s Lynn, pleaded guilty to the incident which happened on Saturday, April 5.
The victim, a man in his 50s, was walking along St Martin’s Road using a walking stick when he had a fall.
A man and woman helped him up and walked him to the gate of his property in The Watering but when the victim got out his wallet, the man snatched it out of his hand and ran off.
Chapman was sentenced to 16 weeks in prison at Norwich Crown Court on Tuesday, but having broken the terms of a previous license by committing this offence, he will remain in custody until February 2016.
Investigating officer, PC David Block, said: “Chapman deliberately posed as a good Samaritan and targeted a vulnerable man. Crimes like this have the potential to seriously damage the confidence of innocent people. This sentencing will help protect others from a callous thief.”
No further action was taken against the woman who was with Chapman at the time of the incident.
