The pet went missing about 3.45pm to 3.50pm last Wednesday, May 14 and family members searching for the dog were told a man had been seen picking up the animal a short time later.

A police appeal was made last Friday (May 16), to trace the pet, and officers confirmed today that the dog had now been reunited with family.

A police spokesman said: “Yesterday afternoon, Thursday, the dog was returned by a woman who told the owner that she had found the Chihuahua in York Road. She said she had read about the theft and realised it had come from Summer Road.”
