The man was arrested and questioned over alleged drugs and immigration offences.

The plants were found in a three-storey town house on Griston Road after police entered at around 8pm on Friday.

The man was taken to the Yarl’s Wood Immigration Centre in Bedford on Sunday night and is due to be deported.

Sgt Gareth Woodward, from Norfolk Police, said: “We found in excess of 500 cannabis plants, which is a substantial amount.

“This was a proper cannabis factory set-up and not just run of the mill.”

He added: “This is very good news for the local community and we are always very keen to get information over anyone dealing or growing drugs.

“I would urge anyone with any information about this sort of thing happening in their local community to contact Norfolk Police or Crimestoppers.”

Norfolk Police can be contacted on the non-emergency 101 number and Crimestoppers can be called on 0800 555111.
