POLICE inquiries into the discovery of a man’s body under a road bridge in south Lowestoft were continuing today..
The body was found on the ground underneath the footbridge over Bloodmoor Road in Lowestoft at about 3.20pm yesterday (Monday).
Police revealed that the man “may have hanged himself from the structure,” and his body was found following reports from a member of the public.
The road was subsequently closed by police, leading to delays in Pakefield and across Lowestoft.
A police spokesman said: “The road was initially opened about 4.40pm and would have then been closed briefly around 5.40pm for further work at the scene.
“The body is believed to be that of a man in his late 50s and at this stage, as is standard procedure, the death is being treated as unexplained although there are not thought to be any suspicious circumstances.”
Today, officers were continuing their inquiries, and are appealing for witnesses.
The police spokesman added: “We are keen to hear from anyone who may have seen a man in the area of Bloodmoor Road at any point of the day yesterday, up until the body was found at 3.20pm.”
● Anyone who saw anything in the area around this time is asked to call Suffolk Police on 101.
