POLICE have confirmed that the body of a man found on farmland at Barnby, near Lowestoft this morning (Tuesday, September 11) is believed to be that of Francisco Assuncao from Ipswich, who had been missing from his home for just over a week.
A spokesman for Suffolk Police said that officers were called by a member of the public just after 9am this morning with a report that a man’s body had been found.
“At this stage, as is standard procedure, the death is being treated as unexplained but there are not thought to be any suspicious circumstances,” the spokesman said.
“The coroner has been informed. Although formal identification has not yet taken place it is believed that the man found is Francisco Assuncao from Ipswich who has been missing since Monday, September 3.
“His next of kin have been informed.”
Police in Ipswich sent out an appeal yesterday (Monday) for help in trying to trace Mr Assuncao, 34, who had been reported missing by a family member on Tuesday, September 4.
He had left his home address in Lone Barn Court, Ipswich at about 6am on Monday, September 3 and visited a family member in Nacton before leaving at about 7am, but had not been seen since.
At the time a police spokesman said: “Police have carried out a number of inquiries to try to locate Francisco, who is known to have links to the Ipswich, Felixstowe and Lowestoft areas.”
