Police have arrested a 16-year-old boy in connection with a spate of suspected arsons on an estate in Thetford.

Officers arrested the boy in the town at around 3am and he is currently in custody at Bury St Edmunds Police Investigation Centre.

The arrest was made in connection with four fires that were started on the estate, in Kimms Belt and Elm Road, in the early hours of Sunday, with residents forced to evacuate their homes as trees and fencing were set alight.

A further suspected arson took place yesterday (August 26) at around 3am, when a white Ford Focus was torched in Elm Road.

The incidents have prompted Thetford Police to promise increased patrols in the area, with plain-clothed officers and dog units being brought in.
