Travellers made a brief stop at the Iron Duke pub on Great Yarmouth seafront today.

Some 10 vans moved on to the site in North Drive at around 1pm, but quickly left of their own accord after one of the travellers said they had received some bad news.

The site is owned by Bourne Leisure which operates the neighbouring Haven Seashore holiday park.

A person from the company who was at the scene said the convoy stayed a matter of minutes.

The site has since been made secure at the back where they entered.

Two police cars were also at the scene responding to reports of criminal damage.

The Iron Duke pub is a landmark building held in high affection locally.

It’s Art Deco style with its flat roof and distinctive curves are said to have considerable architectural merit.

The pub is at the centre of a campaign to guarantee its future. It has been shut for many years and supporters are worried about its condition.

In November last year it was given a Grade II listing making it harder to demolish.
