The 34-year-old was seen by officers near the bus station in the town’s Millfleet, yesterday afternoon.

Officers gave chase and the suspect made attempts to escape by climbing onto the roof of the Lord Kelvin public house.

The man refused to come down and the road was closed for a short time while officers dealt with the incident.

Firefighters were called to assist and after 20 minutes the man climbed down from the roof using a ladder.

The man was arrested in connection with theft and taken to King’s Lynn Police Investigation Centre for questioning.

Jonathan Fox, of Mitchell’s Way, Narborough, has been charged with two counts of shoplifting in relation to incidents in Wilkinsons and Boots in King’s Lynn earlier this month.
