People with money worries are invited to an information event in Gorleston this Saturday (March 16).

The You and Your Money event will run from 2pm to 4pm at the Mesh Centre in Magdalen Way.

Labour prospective parliamentary candidate Lara Norris helped organise the event after she said she heard on doorsteps the fear of change and the lack of information being received about changes to a whole range of benefits and financial support.

She wrote: “In the area directly around the venue nearly every person that we spoke to over a four hour period - more than 200 - was deeply concerned and in many cases frightened.

“As a community based organisation we wanted to do something to reduce fears where possible and to show where support is available for those who will find difficult times ahead.”

She hopes findings on the day will help inform future policy.

The aims of the day are:

To provide – through partners with expertise – general advice on how peoples benefits and support will change and when.

To signpost those most affected to appropriate agencies both statutory and voluntary.

To collect views, opinions and experiences from the voluntary sector and those in attendance and report these back to the Labour Party to help inform future policy.

This will be done by Baroness Angela Smith of Basildon who has agreed to collect views to help make a report to the shadow team in Westminster.

Mrs Norris stressed this is not a political event, but is designed to support members of the community both now and in the future.
