A 23-year-old has appeared in court charged with murdering Lowestoft man Scott Tarrant.

Steven Butcher stood in the dock at Great Yarmouth Magistrates Court this morning as the murder charge was read out to him.

Butcher, who was wearing a blue polo type top and was flanked by two security guards, only gave his name, age, address and nationality in court.

He did not respond to the murder charge as magistrates sent him to Ipswich Crown Court because they could not deal with the case.

Butcher, of Ashfield Crescent, Lowestoft, is due to appear at the crown court tomorrow after he was remanded into custody.

Mr Tarrant, 28, died at the James Paget University Hospital in Gorleston after he suffered stab injuries at a home in Underwood Close on Saturday night.

Police were called to Underwood Close at 11.14pm.

Tributes have been paid on social media to Mr Tarrant following his death, such as calling him a 'great friend'.
