At around 8.20pm on Tuesday, February 7, Spencer’s Sports Bar on Regent Road in Great Yarmouth received a phone call indicating that a bomb had been placed in the Market Gates Shopping Centre, which was closed at the time. Police were immediately alerted and placed a cordon in the area, evacuating the bar, along with adjoining McDonald’s and Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurants.

A spokesman for Norfolk Police said: “Officers have launched an investigation after a hoax bomb threat at Spencer’s Sports Bar.

“Police were called at 8.21pm to reports that someone had phoned the bar and made claims there was a bomb on the premises.

“The bar and surrounding restaurants were evacuated as a precaution whilst a search was carried out by officers; however, it was established the call was a hoax.”

While searches were carried out, the surrounding area was cordoned off with tape and officers were instructing members of the public to avoid the area.

Investigations have since been started into tracing the call, with enquiries ongoing.
