People who leave their cars at sporting venues in the city, while they play football and other activities, have been warned to be on their guard by police who are investigating a series of car break-ins.

Dozens of vehicles have been targeted with audio equipment, phones, iPads and clothes being stolen.

Incidents have happened at the Football Development Centre, Clover Hill Road, Bowthorpe; Goals Soccer Centre, in Hall Road, and Earlham Road car park near the UEA five-a-side football site.

The most recent incidents happened on Wednesday between 7.30pm and 9pm at Earlham Road, where thieves targeted three vehicles by forcing door locks and smashing windows stealing a sat nav, phone, cash and documents from inside.

A Seat Ibiza parked at the Goals Centre was also targeted that evening, when vandals smashed a window and stole an iPad and about £100 in cash from inside.

Incidents were also reported at the Football Development Centre in Bowthorpe, on July 18 and September 3, when about 20 vehicles were targeted.

Police believe the incidents are linked and officers are urging motorists to be vigilant and to avoid leaving valuables in cars.

Norwich Policing Commander Superintendent Paul Sanford said: “Thieves know that cars parked at sporting venues will often be left unattended for some time while the owners use the facilities.

“Our advice would be to leave valuables that you don’t need at home and remove anything from display which may catch a thief’s attention.”

Officers are investigating the sighting of a dark coloured Audi A3 in the Earlham Road area around the time of the incidents on Wednesday, and would like to hear from anyone with further information.
