Police are urging van owners to be on their guard after a string of vehicle break-ins this weekend.

Four of the offences happened in Hilgay where both electric and hand-held tools were stolen.

A Transit parked on Foresters Avenue was broken into between 3pm on Friday and 6am on Sunday.

A Renault Master van parked on Church Road was broken into between 5pm on Saturday and 9.30am on Sunday.

Offenders also forced entry into a Citroen Dispatch van parked on Hills Court over the weekend and attempted to break into a Ford Transit which was also parked in the village on Saturday night.

There were similar incidents in South Lynn between 11pm and 11.30pm on Saturday, when two vans were broken into – one on Morleys Leet and one on The Portway. Electrical tools were stolen from both vehicles.

Two men were disturbed during the theft on The Portway and left the scene in a blue or grey car.

Police are urging people to take the proper security measures to protect their property including removing all tools from vehicles overnight.

West Norfolk policing commander, Supt Carl Edwards, said: “We would be keen to hear from anyone who may have witnessed any of these incidents, or who may have seen the vehicle described acting suspiciously in any of these areas.

“I would urge tradesman to be vigilant, where possible remove tools from vehicles overnight, park their vehicles in a well-lit area, and in a way which makes it more difficult for offenders to force entry, for example close to a wall.”

Anyone with further information about any of these incidents should call police on 101.
