For decades, it was a place for local ne’er-do-wells to avoid, with numerous people benefiting from a night of “hospitality” within its walls.
And now an arresting opportunity has come up to snap up one of Sheringham’s most well-known – and oft-visited – buildings.
For about £400,000, bidders can buy the former police station on Weybourne Road, which closed last year when officers moved into the new fire station on Cromer Road.
The building is being sold by NPS Group, which described the sale as “an exciting opportunity to acquire a significant and well-placed site in this popular north Norfolk town”.
The station stands on the coast road and is close to North Norfolk Railway and Sheringham Golf Club.
It is described as “a substantial two-storey building of brick construction under a pantile roof which is set back from the road”.
NPS said the 0.17ha site lent itself to a “variety of conversion or redevelopment opportunities, subject to planning”, including six two- or three-bed flats, demolition of the police station and development of six three-bed semi-detached homes and a four-bed detached home, or commercial use.
Offers have to be submitted to email@example.com by 11am on Thursday April 25.
A block viewing policy is in place, with opportunities to look around set for 10-11am on March 6, March 18, March 26, April 3 and April 15.
The station is one of a number across the region that have come on to the market in recent years after a review saw some closures and moves to new edge-of-town locations.
