Vandalism at a Fenland school has been called 'senseless' by its headteacher, as pupils and staff come to terms with the attack.
Paint was thrown over the building, windows, roof, play equipment and plants at Beaupré Community Primary School on Church Drove, Outwell, between 6pm on Thursday and 6am on Friday (December 15 and 16).
Suspects broke into a shed on the site and removed poster paint, which was also used to write offensive language and pictures on the playground.
Headteacher Owen Rhodes said: 'A serious act of overnight vandalism on December 15 affected our school grounds, including the playground.
'This senseless act has saddened the whole school community.
'The children were unable to use the playground the following morning, while the incident was being investigated by police, and the mess cleaned up. 'Although the school remained open, the Beaupré under 5's centre was badly affected, and had to close for the day. I am pleased to say the playground is now back in use
'We have been inundated with good wishes and offers of help and support from parents and the wider community, and have been very grateful for this. 'Under difficult circumstances it has been very encouraging to see the whole community pulling together.
'I would particularly like to thank the Outwell fire service, the Under 5's staff and our chair of governors, who assisted with clearing up.
'If anyone has any information which may help the police, please call them.'
Witnesses are urged to call PC Tamsin Raines at Downham Market police station on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
