The gold coloured wind instrument, worth £299.99, was taken from the window of Sue Ryder Care on Sheringham High Street when the shop was open.

It was the most expensive item in the store and was taken between 5.30pm on July 22 and 8.30am on July 25.

Shop manager Maria Cummins said: “It is sad. We are trying to raise vital funds. We may not order another saxophone in again as £299.99 is a big amount of money to lose. People are disgusted that anybody could do that. Searching for the saxophone is like looking for a needle in a haystack.”

The saxophone was part of popular collection of new musical instruments bought with Sue Ryder Care cash. The shop had only bought the saxophone two weeks before it was stolen.

Sue Ryder Care provides palliative end of life care at its hospices among other services.

Anyone who wants to volunteer at the Sheringham shop should call 01263 825992.

Witnesses should contact PC Richard Parfitt on 101.
