Two coach loads of Newcastle fans stopped for a beer break on their way to Carrow Road for today’s Barclays Premier League match with Norwich City.

The Red Lion pub was packed and police were called but reported that the fans were well-behaved.

A spokesman for Norfolk Police said: “We did receive a call from a member of public who expressed concerns but the Newcastle supporters were well-behaved.

“The Red Lion pub was very busy and there was a lot of chanting as the fans descended into the Market Place but there was nothing but good-natured fun.”

The spokesman said that no arrests were made.
