Arsonists are believed to have started fires which destroyed one building and damaged three others on the Fiveways roundabout at Barton Mills.

Police are now appealing for witnesses to the blaze, which started at around 6.40pm on Sunday.

The fires were started in a disused garage next to the busy roundabout, which serves the A11, A1075 and A1101.

A wooden outbuilding was set on fire and completely destroyed in the incident, while three other buildings were found to have had fires lit inside them.

Five fire crews, from Mildenhall, Bury St Edmunds, Brandon and Ixworth were called to the fire, which prompted “a large number of calls” according to a Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service spokesman.

Staff at nearby businesses reported seeing smoke from the area, but no suspicious activity.

Witnesses should contact PC Philip Smith at Mildenhall Police Station on 101, quoting reference MH/14/452, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
