A driver tried to talk themselves out of a ticket after being stopped by police for driving with no insurance.

After being stopped in Long Stratton, a male in his 40s claimed to be driving illegally due to having “just bought the vehicle”, which police explained was not a valid reason.

In a tweet, South Norfolk Police said: “Driver stopped and had their vehicle seized for having No Insurance in #LongStratton. ‘I’ve just bought the vehicle’ is not an excuse for not insuring it before you drive it away. #sec165 #160 #353.”

The vehicle was stopped at 2.52pm on Wednesday, January 3 and was recovered by the police at 3.40pm. A spokeman said: “He can expect to be issued with a minimum of six penalty points and £300 fine.”
